Water efficiency improvements for clothes washers and dishwashers could have a significant impact on residential water consumption if the standards negotiated by efficiency proponents and industry are adopted. Water use for front-loading clothes washers would be reduced by 52% relative to the current standard and water use for top-loaders would be reduced by 16% for the 2015 standard and 37% for the 2018 standard.
